Juniors at CCKC

Korfball is a fun, mixed sport, that offers children and young adults from the ages 7-14 (KS2 and KS3) the chance to experience a team sport, exercise and have fun! There are also skills awards to achieve for those keen players. Our club caters for players of all abilities. We currently have players in the Under 9, Under 11 and Under 14 age groups. Our U9 and U11 players take part in regular local tournaments and our U14s play in the National League (Champions in 2014, runners-up in 2015). We train hard and play hard! Korfball is played by adults, children, families, couples; as elite-level international competition or as a recreational past-time. Juniors and families are welcomed with open arms.

Juniors training

We start with a warm-up and end with a game each week. During the session, we concentrate on improving fundamental skills, such as catching and passing, and work on fitness levels through fun exercises. Then we work on korfball skills, such as shooting, team work, attacking and defending. There are always helpers on hand to give help with understanding the drills and exercise plus answer any questions you have. Juniors train on Sundays during term time from 4-6pm at Hills Road Sports and Tennis Centre, Purbeck Road, Cambridge, CB2 8PF. If anyone in your family is under 7, City also runs a multi-sport programme for children aged 3-7 (pre-school to Year 2). Training fees are £50 for the term, £45 for the second child. You can try before you buy by attending one session before you commit to a term, so come along and have a go! If you would like to try the sport, or for further information, please contact Simon McGregor

Youth players at seniors

Youths aged over 13 also have the opportunity to train with the seniors from 8-9pm at Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre to further their korfball development and aid their transition to the senior club. All juniors are supported by the club to take their sport to the level they would like, whether recreational or to international level. For further information, please contact Simon McGregor

National League matches for U14’s

These take place regularly throughout the season and are a great chance to compete against teams from other areas.

Academy training, local and national tournaments

The children are encouraged to also train at Academy, which is training for all clubs and it is through these sessions, that children are selected to play in the inter-area squads. We attend local tournaments for the U9 and U11 players throughout the year. We help schools to enter teams in the inter school area, where regional winners get to play in front of crowds at the National Finals each year! We also attend the National Youth Day, the largest tournament of the year, and exhausting fun!
