U14s make great strides

City 4 – Tigers 13

A rematch of the last game before Christmas and a great improvement by everybody.  The Academy practice they went to they day before helped get everyone back in the Korfing groove and the whole team was fit and well. Divisions of Amalia, Charlotte, Boaz and Patrick had there work cut out with Amalia and Boaz in particular having to work very hard in defence but adjusting well during the game.  Alex came on for Patrick just after half time and moved and supported the division well. In attack the chances were limited, but a lovely long shot by Boaz opened the scoring for the team. At the other end Alesia, Lilian, Reuben, and William had a very good contest with the tigers division – William making some great intercepts in defence and Lilian doing a great job cutting off the Tigers feeder.  There were a few more changes at this end and once the boys started working the collect/post in the second half it looked really good in attack – resulting in 2 great long shots for Reuben and a penalty.  Simone came on for Alesia in the second half and was made to work hard by her Tigers player. All in all this was a good, tough game, everyone was made to work but the teamwork started to get better as the game went on…. a perfect warm-up for the next game! (Scorers:  Boaz 1, Reuben 3 (but he owes at least some of these to great collecting position by William)

City 8 – Norwich City 5

Last time we played  Norwich City it was very close and we just lost (3-5) so this time we were expecting a good, close game.   The divisions were the same as those that worked well last game ( Amalia, Charlotte, Boaz and Patrick (Alex at half time), and  Alesia, Lilian, Reuben, and William. The key to this game was some good defence and some clever team attacking – Poor Amalia played against the best girl (in both games) and so had a real job in both attack and defence, but she kept her girl busy in attack and that allowed 2 very well taken run in goals by Charlotte.  Boaz scored another two nice goals and Patrick/Alex defended & assisted well. At the other end Reuben stepped up with a fine defence effort against their best boy – it was a tussle right to the end (he managed to score one goal).  In attack, that allowed William to work his magic on the running in shots – scoring 3 in total (long distance running in shots – quite marvellous I don’t know how he does it.  None if this attacking would have been possible without the excellent assisting/feeding from Lillian and Alesia. A really great team effort and just reward for all the hard work – well done team! (Scorers:  William 3, Charlotte 2, Boaz 2, Reuben 1)
